Oysters Lobster Coquilles

In 1873 the firm C.L. de Meulemeester & Co. started from Bergen op Zoom with the growing of the Zeeuwse Flat Oyster (Ostrea Edulis). In 1890 this became a public company. The new name was: NV Nederlandsche Maatschappij voor Oesterteelt, formerly de firma C.L. de Meulemeester & Co. The purpose of the company was the trade in and the growing of oysters. Around 1906 the company moved to Yerseke.

In 1936 the name was changed to: NV Nederlandse Maatschappij voor Oesterteelt De Meulemeester & Co. The company had a quotation at the Amsterdam stock-exchange. From 1946 onwards the company was and is active in the lobster-trade, first with the European Lobster (Homarus Gammarus). In 1960 the company started as the first in Europe with the import of  Canadian lobster (Homarus Americanus).

In 1991 the company changed from a public company into a private company and got its present name: De Meulemeester BV. In 1996 the de Koeijer family took over the company. In the years that followed the company has been modernised considerably, which resulted in the BRC-certification in 2004.
